Considering NAU’s Invasive Cardiovascular Technology Program? What You Need to Know

A career in healthcare can be extremely rewarding, as well as offer stability and good pay. One fast-growing career is cardiovascular technologists, which help care for patients and assist cardiologists in performing many procedures that help diagnose and treat heart disease. It is a fulfilling career path for those looking to make a difference within the healthcare field.cardio

According to The Heart Foundation, heart disease (an umbrella term that includes heart disease, stroke and other cardiovascular diseases) is the #1 cause of death in the United States, killing nearly 787,000 people alone in 2011. In fact, cardiovascular diseases claim more lives than all forms of cancer combined.

National American University's (NAU) Associate of Applied Science in Invasive Cardiovascular Technology (CVT) degree program is designed to prepare students by using active, hands-on learning in a medical lab similar to what one would experience in the field.

At NAU, it's important to us that students are not only well-prepared for the job field in which they'll be working after they complete their degree, but they are aware of the various career paths available to them once they complete the program. With this in mind, NAU offers career services to ensure students and graduates are on the track to success.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, there were about 9,300 cardiovascular technologist jobs in Texas in 2013, and the average salary was $47,930. Cities with the highest number of jobs were Houston, Dallas, and Fort Worth. Metro areas with the highest median salaries were McAllen, Austin and Amarillo.

The Associate of Applied Science Invasive Cardiovascular Technology degree program requires on-campus classes at NAU’s Austin location in order to learn the techniques of a cardiovascular technologist within the lab setting. Some general education courses may be taken online or at any of our three Austin locations. We also offer online healthcare programs and classes as part of other degree offerings.
